PSW Canada and our network of volunteers are dedicated to supplying the best possible resources and opportunities to ALL Personal Support Workers.
Our goal is to be the first source Personal Support Workers turn to for answers to their questions, information on training and upgrades, and to network with other PSWs and caregivers across Canada. To this end, we will strive to become the single largest network of PSWs in Ontario and eventually all caregivers across Canada.
PSW Canada has become the voice for PSWs, representing them in meetings with the government, and helping to connect them to other organizations to ensure the best working conditions, and protection from harm.
Our future aspirations include the formation of an official association of Personal Support Workers to establish standards and qualifications within the field. With this association, we will not only build better, stronger PSWs, we will also become an advocate for the rights of seniors and all individuals in the care of PSWs, demanding the highest quality of living and working conditions. | Free membership Basic membership is free and includes access to all public articles, news, and our public forums. Re: Exciting Changes!
First, I want to thank all of you for your dedication to PSW Canada. When we launched PSW Canada in 2006, we had a dream of building a dynamic organization that brought PSWs together as a community. With your help and active participation, we achieved that. We accomplished a lot.
Now I want to tell you about changes that are coming...exciting changes that will do even more to improve the status of PSWs in Ontario. On June 10th. 2010, we are launching the Ontario Personal Support Worker Association (OPSWA).
Why would we change PSW Canada if it was working so well? Because with a legally-registered Association, we have the ability to do much more. We will have more credibility to represent PSWs to the government, the media, and employers. We will have more resources to provide real benefits to PSWs. We will have more influence to drive change.
Here is the mission statement of OPSWA:
To continuously strive to improve the professional status of the Personal Support Workers of Ontario through advocacy for excellence and consistency in training, services, working conditions, and value to those we serve.
OPSWA will be offering you individual health plans, training opportunities, assistance with job searches, and many more member benefits. The Association represents a major step forward for PSWs in Ontario.
Further details will be released shortly. Meanwhile, help us spread the word. Our hope is that every PSW in the province will be a member. Working together, we can be stronger.
